Always a devoted cinephile, Kabir Mehta was encouraged to pursue filmmaking professionally after unexpectedly winning a filmmaking competition organised by the Delhi University while he was studying Economics. An encounter with director, Ashim Ahluwalia led Mehta to Mumbai where he worked with the filmmaker on feature films as well as groundbreaking avant-garde cinema.
